The lightest Grand Touring car in the world
For 29 years, Donkervoort had only made topless cars. And then the D8 GT came along.
Yet despite the outcry, the Donkervoort D8 GT allowed Donkervoort to enter the FIA European GT4 championship, where a young Denis Donkervoort excelled.
The championship allowed Donkervoort to constantly develop its road cars and it put the brand’s qualities in the international spotlight.
Donkervoort needed the D8 GT, and it came with highly advanced innovations like Tarox brakes, lightweight Rays aluminium wheels from Japan and new lightweight windows.
At 650kg, it was the lightest Grand Touring car in the world, and with three engine outputs from 132kW (180hp) to 198kW (270hp), it could go toe-to-toe with any of the heavyweights.
