Donkervoort continues with GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition
Friday 7/3/2015D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition
More than two months ago the world was introduced to the Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition; the first Donkervoort fully fitted with visible carbon fibre – a technique in which the unique and recognizable fibre structure of the material is exposed to view. Originally planned as a one-off, the first was specially made at the personal request of a Swiss Donkervoort enthusiast. The introduction of this special edition drew a massive demand for this beautiful ‘dark version’ of the D8 GTO. Meanwhile the last of the limited series D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition was sold last month. These developments have led Donkervoort to decide to continue production of the Bare Naked Carbon Edition!
D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition
This special edition emphasises the high-tech, ultra-light, super-fast nature of the D8 GTO through a unique combination of lightweight visible carbon fibre components and the powerful Audi 2.5L R5 TFSI pure sport engine. The ideal combination of the engine – recently chosen Engine of the Year for the sixth consecutive year – with the ultra-lightweight of the D8 GTO has been praised time and time again. In the various ‘Supertests’ on television, online and in car magazines at home and abroad the GTO has once again earned its stripes among the world’s other Supercars this season!
For the Bare Naked Carbon Edition, the focus is on carbon fibre. Both the exterior and interior of this GTO consist almost entirely of this super-strong, ultra-light material. The exterior, visible carbon fibre from nose to rear bumper, gives an even more mysterious, dark look to the beautiful D8 GTO. The carbon look is also carried through to the interior, in elements such as the seats, door panels, seatbelt and rollbar trim, window frame, dashboard and door sills.
Every Bare Naked Carbon Edition undergoes a remarkable painting process, in which a unique UV coating is applied to each carbon fibre component by hand, in either a matte or gloss finish. The use of visible carbon fibre components, rather than a traditional colour paint system, also results in five kilos of weight savings.
Second unit
The second unit of the D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition left the Donkervoort factory in the Netherlands this week, headed for Belgium. This magnificent eye-catcher was completed with a gloss finish and several bright green accents, recalling the athletic background of its new owner; a professional cyclist.
